Legislative advocacy campaigns can be a long time in the making. For example, the foundation for SB 789, which aims to protect the Willamette Valley vegetable seed industry from potential increased canola acreage, was laid back in 2020 with the creation of the Pacific Northwest Seed Policy Roadmap.
The Roadmap was co-written by the OOC's Board Chair when she was the Policy Director at Friends of Family Farmers, along with Kiki Hubbard from Organic Seed Alliance, and led to funding that helped build the grassroots coalition that is tackling this important seed protection work.
